Environment
In order to continue prospering, the protection of the environment forms an integral component of the way in which MMC conducts its activities. MMC complies with all relevant South African environmental legislation and standards and strives towards meeting international standards where these exceed local equivalents. MMC encourages waste minimisation and management through research into, and development of recycling processes and clean production techniques. The company also holds a valid ISO 14001:2004 certification and implements the guidelines of this environmental protection management system.
The sustainability of the Nelspruit plant is directly linked to having access to a waste disposal facility. MMC has been granted the necessary permits to operate a waste disposal facility at Kingston Vale. The design, construction and operation of the Kingston Vale site meet all required environmental protection standards.
